Richard "Dick" Fenters, 71, of 408 E. Maple St, Attica, died at 3:12 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2004, in the Skilled Nursing Unit in One North of St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. Born in Attica, on Dec. 28, 1932, he attended Attica schools and was a lifelong Attica resident. Mr. Fenters was a veteran of the Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean Conlfict. He worked for C&D Technologies in Attica for 35 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Fountain Lodge 60 F&AM in Covington, and had served as secretary to the Wabash Lodge 70 F&AM in Attica for 25 years. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Terre Haute, Fountain County Low 12 Club and Amateur Radio Club, with the call letters of KA9JDP. He was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. On December 20, 1952, he married Rose Ellen Blankenship in Attica. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Connie S. Fenters (companion: Kevin Richardson) of Attica; two sons, Charles R. "Chuck" Fenters (wife: Shelley) of Attica and Michael S. "Mike" Fenters (wife: Jane) of Independence. Friends were invited to call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with Masonic memorial services at 7:45 p.m. Services were held at Maus at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, with Charles Fink officiating. Interment at Riverside Cemetery, Attica, with military rites. Survivors include 8 grandchildren, Jamie Stafford (husband: David); Petty Officer Second Class Richard "KH" Fenters (wife: Lena), U.S. Navy; Reggie, Roxanne and Courtney Fenters; Jessica, Kristina and Katie Rasmussen; 3 great-grandchildren, Liberty Rasmussen, Elexis and Trevor Hilaire. Richard was the son of Charles J. and Ruth Blackford Fenters and was raised by his aunt and uncle, Laura and Lloyd Fenters. Preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Christy Ann Roe. Memorial contributions were requested to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
